What is Autumn Equinox?
September 21, 2018
Autumn Equinox is the second of two harvest festivals and is celebrated on September 22. It is also called Mabon, for Queen Mab of the Faery People (Maeve of the Celts). At Autumn Equinox, day and night are equal, in perfect balance, and we give thought to the balance and flow within our lives.
What Can You Do to Celebrate Autumn Equinox?
In our culture, we already have a tradition (albeit a few weeks later in October) of Thanksgiving to celebrate the harvest time.
Autumn Equinox is a good time to invite friends and family over and have a short ceremony before or after a meal where you might pass a blessing cup filled with grape juice or wine. Each person in the circle is invited to say something they are thankful for.
Praise Her from whom ALL Blessings Flow
Praise Her all creatures here below
Praise Her above in wings of flight
Praise Her in darkness and in light

Which Goddess is Celebrated During Autumn Equinox
The two Goddesses we honour are Gaia and Maeve.
Gaia is our Mother Earth and she provides the rich abundance at harvest time.
Maeve is a Celtic Goddess, who honours the cycles of her body, energy levels, and emotions.
Maeve and Gaia remind us to stay centered in our bodies as the season begins to wane toward darkness and winter. The darkness is not to be feared.
